So, it is time for the ultimate timesink. A huge Civ game, where histogram is the only possible win. Unlike my other games, I think it is time to plan ahead, instead of just rolling with the punches. There are some wonders that are very very much more valuable in a huge setting. Assumptions. I will not spread beyond the initial continent. -- Fairly safe assumption. Pyramids --- With upwards of a hundred cities, this megawonder will be worth at least 60,000 shields. However, only window for building it is right when it is the most critical to get out settlers. Start location looks ideal for cranking out a Pyramids though, with lots of shields on the bonusgrass. Great Library --- This is something I want mostly because it will save me lots of time. With my increasing skill at brokering, it is less and less essential for the free techs. I will probably skip this if I get Pyramids, as I doubt I can afford to build so few settlers. Lighthouse --- This is almost a guaranteed first contact with the other continents. Fairly cheap wonder also. WIll go for it if I get a good coastal city. SUnTzu -- This is also a must have, barracks is very valuable for the free healing. Important to have prebuild here though, as AIs will have cascades going. Leo's -- WIth the huge number of troops likely to be possessed, this wonder will be huge. Although I do not plan to do much if any modern age fighting, I will need to keep my troops fresh. Also a priority. Sistines -- Three extra happiness in almost all cities. Very important, but less important than Sun and Leo's I think. ( I assume I can use Future techs to trade luxes in the endgame. Otherwise it may be needed to get enough happiness in Megacities. ) JS Bach -- Two extra happiness without the need to build cathedrals. This is a great wonder worthy of its name. Only bad thing is that the other three wonders of this period also is very very good. Magellans -- SKip this. Extra naval movement is not something I need/want when I do not intend to fight on the other continents. Newtons/Copernicus -- This is just cream. NO real need for them. Better to build banks at the phase where they are available. Build only if you got leaders available. Smiths --- Duh. If I only get one wonder in medieval times, better make sure this is the wonder. The industrial/modern I hope to net them all after I get Theory of Evolution. Both Theory and Hoovers are priority targets of course. Initial game plan. A bit of a farmers gambit, grabbing land while building wonders at the same time, prevent any early warfare. We are rewarded if we can kill our blood enemy fairly early, so will try to have a medieval campaign with knights/cavalry. Huge map means movement is really really important, so will try to avoid swordsmen. Also, make sure to hold my warring gambits in check. There are severe penalties to rampant conquests. Make sure to select enemy quickly. Since game is so long, make sure to minimize overlap between cities, as I expect half the game will be played with size 20+ cities. Get bonus points for huge cities also, and that could be hard to reach unless no overlap. Take time out after initial scouting for a dotmap as well. Need to get a clear picture of the lands. So. Time to start game. 4000BC Fairly decent start for an Epic game. Even a bonus food. Of course I also have to think a while before founding, as I will lose a cattle if I found where I am. On the other hand, I will lose the river to get tha cattle. I will found where I stand, and let next city get cattle. We know pottery so I start a min science on Alphabet. ( No barbs means no huts. Less randomness. ) 3700 Seem to be stuck in a hilly region far to the southern part of our continent. WIll build only two scouts before Granary. 3050 A thousand years, and we have met no one on this continent. Fertile rivervalleys interspersed with hills and mountains seems to be prevalent landscape. Luxes might be a problem, I will make it a priority to get those. 2900 Granary completes and I start first settler. Will build two settlers before starting Pyramids. Also spot London. An unimpressive size 1 city. Lizzy wants most of my gold along with Masonry for Alphabet. I will do no such deal until I haev more contacts. Had to think a while, since I could have started on Mathematics early. 2800 Meet iros. Trade them Masonry for Ceremonial and 10 gold. Masonry and Ceremonial gets me alphabet from Lizzy, and I do another min run on Math, trusting Lizzy to come up with Writing soonish. 2590 Get Bronzeworking and Warrior Code from Zulus for Masonry + Alphabet and 80 gold. That was expensive. Starting to regret I didn't build three scouts, as I missed an excellent spot for next city. Next settler will have to go there. Have Iros and English as next door neighbours. WOnder which of them I would want as friend, and which as enemy in an ancient war. 2390 Finished my second settler, and it is time for my Pyramids gambit. I expect to have pyramids within 40 turns. I hope Ais will be busy building settlers. 2150 Zulus are up Wheel, but no twofers exist, so I bide my time. 1750 Iros get Alphabet for Wheel, and I can plan where to put my next few cities. Horses are a priority. 1625 We get contact with Aztecs. A late contact, but I wont say no. Will have to settle quite aggressively if I want to get horses. They are far away. 1500 Mysticism and Iron working is out there in a possible 2fer, but I have 4 turns left on Math, so I will wait. 1400 Draw in Math at monopoly. Time to trade. English pays Iron, Mysticism and 50 gold. Hmm, nothing more to trade for. Go min science on Currency. Think it is a fairly safe bet some AI will have writing real soon now. Iros are religious, so I suspect them to try and grab the Poly gambit. 5 turns left to go on Pyramids, or a really really expensive barracks. 1300 Time to see if it is profitable to do wonders. Pyramids is one turn from completion. Need to build lots of military and settlers now, so I do not lose too much of the available room. 1250 We have Pyramids selfbuilt :) Hope it was worth 13 settlers......Hiawatha demands Mysticism. :( With three warriors to my name, it is not the time to complain. 1225 London Completes Oracle. Cascade is dead. Wonder if I can get another wonder then. Will start a prebuild after settler in one of my coastal villages. 1200 Hmm, techs are expensive. Math to Aztecs for HOrseback. Horseback + 140 gold to Iros for Writing. Build embassies. I will send my settlers far abroad now, to stake out luxes and resources. After that, it is fill out the blanks, and after that, time for military buildup. 1050 Colossus is completed in Germany, and hopefully cascade is fully dead. Continent with player is usually the continent that is ahead due to all the 2fers and stuff. Besides, there are five nations on this continent. On the other continents, there might be two or three. 975BC Hmm, we are not even on the chart when the most powerful nations are compiled. 825BC Washington is size 10, and at that size it demands 30% luxes. Since I do not want it bigger, when food box is full, it is a worker. I will need lots and lots and lots of workers. New York and Boston needs to be MMed every single turn, as they share a cow. 650BC One more city, and I have staked my claim, and it is filler time. Get MapMaking from Aztecs for 10 gpt and my world map. Exchange world maps with Shaka, and gets out of that 50 gold richer. Exchange world maps with Iros, and I am 80 gold richer. Get two workers and 30 gold from Lizzie for my world map. :) Sucker,..... 610BC Hook up another lux, and we can let Washington grow to size 11. 490BC Currency comes in. Set my single scientist on Construction, since that is an expensive tech. Do not particularly believe I will get it, but worth a shot, since tech progress is so slow now. Hmm, there are no new techs out there. Too bad. 430BC Iros are proliferous. They now have 20 cities to our 10. 370BC My monopoly on Currency is still going strong. No new techs have appeared, and I do not want to sell it for money alone. 300gold and 8 gpt is tempting though. Will wait a while, as long as price do not go down. I am building military now in Washington, waiting for a wonder tech. Fairly certain I would nab any wonder that the tech comes up for. 330BC England decide they do not want to wait any longer, they want Currency now. I tell them to go look elsewhere, as I will not give it to them for free. Grumbling they leave our premises. 310BC Expensive. Zulus want 333+8gpt+Currency for Construction. I think this is a tad bit to expensive. I will need to grab Aztecs gold though, otherwise Zulus will get it for sure. So, two choices, and my inexperience with trading makes the decision a hard one. 1) Wait until Construction goes down in price and trade it with the others. This risks money disappearing. Also risk is that someone gets currency on tehir own. 2) Buy Construction, and buy back some cash from Aztecs. This may not be the optimal deal, and money now is very very valuable. I will wait. Live and learn..... 230 Finally a second tech is around. I have a hard time assimilating the worth of a monopoly on this huge map. I can get both Code of Laws, and Construction for Currency. Make that deal from Lizzy. get 410 gold from Zulus for Currency. Time to start thinking about blood enemy. Two choices here to. England who looks like the easiest target, and Iros who have the most land. Iros would have been the clear choice, except for the fact that the Rider is one of the most fearsome Ancient age UUs. They do not have horses, nor iron in their current lands. Will collect most of my troops on their border. 110BC Fairly certain we would need at least lighthouse to get contact with other continents. Have almost circumnavigated our own continent, and no promising leads. Thought a while about starting Wall as prebuild for Great Library, but I will continue to produce warriors for a swordrush. 70BC Unload a spearman on a one sector island. Would have been rough if I needed to clear out that island from an enemy. 30BC Buy Philosophy from Iros, and start full research on Republic. Get Forbidden Palace blurb. 30AD Lose a suicide galley. Buy Literature from Zulus, and start Great Library in Washinton. Hope to get it, only thing that would prevent it would be a cascade. When we are measured for size, we are at place 8. Hope to rectify that shortly. 90AD I get beaten by two turns by Seville for Great Lighthouse. Will have to be a prebuild for SunTzu or Leos then. Will grab Great wall, losing 80 shields. Will need an Aqueduct before starting another prebuild. 110AD Get Great Wall in Boston. 210AD Hmm, Leipzig completes Great Library. I get a rather expensive ordinary library. 230AD Seems like my guess that our continent is advanced was wrong. Babylon completes Hanging gardens before we even get Poly. 290AD Second suicide galley sinks. 320AD Get Republic and immediately revolt. I will have monopoly, so I hope I can use Republic to get the Medieval tech my continents scientific AI drew. Aergg, did not get Monopoly, as Iros and Aztecs also got Republic. Later half of Ancient age was not nearly as good as first part. :( Put up a min science on Engineering. Assume AIs go for Units and buildings. Notice Aztecs have sold horses to Iros. Bah. 400AD Hiawatha tyries to blackmail us for 80 gold, but we decline. He decides he was just joking.... 410AD We demand Iros leave our premises. He concurs. 430 Start a 40 turn prebuild. This is hoping for Leos. 470AD Iros have not yet yielded to temptation and declared war on me. They have managed to get a monopoly on Monotheism though. I do bnot intend to buy that unless I can get a 2fer. 520AD trade Iron + 60 gpt to Aztecs for Mono + worker No further trades are wanted. ( Monarchy is available. Would want it eventually, but not right now. 550AD Not a single war, and we do not have contact with the other continent. Weird with such a slow game. 560AD Forbidden Palace comes in self built. Iroqs start SunTzu 580AD Buy Feudalism straight from the Aztecs. Need to start next prebuild now. Starting to have real thoughts about just ruthlessly attacking the Iros while they have no iron. Problem is I would get a 25 % penalty on score. ( Mitigated by getting a large chunk of land. ) I would also not be able to sign in friends, since I am not battling my bloodenemy. 610AD Realize now is not a good time to give iros a Golden Age, I sell them iron ( To prevent them from attacking me) and move my forces to the english front. English are not as big as Iros, but still respectable in size. They will not get a Golden Age from combat at least. 650AD Iros are now up Chivalry on me. I hope my lone scientist gamble on Engineering will get me Chivalry from him. 680AD Put New York on Starvation diet, shaving a turn of off SunTzu. Aztecs start Sistines. Good. Lets hope I can get a monopoly on Engineering so I can get those techs. 730AD Engineering comes in as the English manage to get hold of Feudalism when they contact the Spanish. Will see how I will handle this. Send iron to Zulus for Spanish contact and World map. ( two luxes was not enough for world map. ) Ack Spain knows all techs I know. ( And five other nations as well. ) Buy contact with Arabs for 420 gold and world map. Buy Contacts with Romans,Russians and Babylonians for My contacts and 200 gold from Arabs. Buy Contact with germans and Theology from Romans for 220 gold and world map Get Territory map and 210 gold from Arabs for World map Get Chivalry and world map from russia for my contacts and 160 gold. Get 180 gold and world map from Rome for contacts and world map. Invention and Education is out there, but a tad bit to expensive. Get invention anyway. really want Leos. Germany parts with invention for contacts, map and 16 gpt. Sell contacts and map to Babylon together with 28 gpt for Education. Hmm, other continent are up Banking as well. This does not bode well. I may miss Smiths. Establish Embassies. Rome has 12 turns on Leos ( I have 7 on SunTzu, and 18 on Leos. ) Oo my, he has built a lot of culture. Ack Babylon has only 4 turns on Sistine's. Hope I can run the cascade. He is of course in his Golden Age. Fire up some Music Theory research. 20 % gives me some income still, and 19 turns to get results. IBT: Russia and Spain decide they should spank Arabia together. Romans start Copernicus :( Thought I had cought up to the rampaging AIs, but I suspect techs will fly by now. 740AD No blood enemy has materialized, and I cannot afford to wait any longer if I want to have maximum amount of space. I declare war with the ENglish, them being the weakest nation. This will incur a 25 % penalty on my score, but with some luck, it will double my lands. Buy a RoP with Iros, mostly to entice them to stay out of the conflict. Since I am not fighting a blood enemy, but for greed, I may not buy help. ------------- Insert picture of EnglishInvasion Lose one Medieval against the dual spearmen defending Richmond. I am saving my knights, hoping to get a jump from conquered territory. Two knights grab Hastings, defeating the dual spearmen that was defending, and we are behind enemy lines, as there are workers in the fields. Manage to get my first promotion as my medievals grab Birmingham together with two workers. It is a blighted country the English have. Mountains and Jungle. Will see how far I can get before I am gassed. No 2fers for Banking Astronomy exists. Possible 2fer for any of them and Gunpowder though. Wont tie up most of my income while I am warring though. I tie it up researching Music Theory instead, speeding that research up. WIll hope for a monopoly. ( And then a gambit for Printing Press as well :) ) 750AD Disaster strikes as Babylonian city of Nineveh completes SunTzu. I need Astronomy NOW, so I can secure a consolation prise. 100 gpt buys Astronomy from Spain. I have to lower my own research into Music Theory. To complete the 2fer I get Gunpowder from Germany. Notice they are up Chemistry as well. Wonder how far up that tree they are. IBT SPain signs in Rome against Arabia. 770AD Finally capture Brighton. It was on a hill, and withstood my five knights tasked with conquering them. This turn the last spearman died. Got four workers and a catapult for my troubles though. IBT Hastings decide to revolt. Gah. Lose more troops. 780 Hope this gamble goes home. Looks somewhat bright right now. Leos will save me lots of money in the short run. Hmm, this is a long long game, and I expect to be at peace for a long time. Sistines would be better for those large size 20 cities. Will try for Sistines instead of Leos. Gloucester falls. Hastings is retaken, but not before it has managed to kill one more Medieval. This looks like a costly war. IBT Complete Copernicus in our FP city. No way I could have let the cascade live long enough for this to be Smiths. WIll start a new prebuild though. Hmm, that was unexpected. Finishing Copernicus make our GA start. That must surely be a good thing:O) I will see if my GA can snag both JS Bachs, and Smiths. If cascade dies next turn when I finish Sistines, then I am all set. Nope, did not get Sistine, as Babylonians finish that one turn before I do. Will get Leos though, and kill cascade. WIll have to do the most out of Cavalry upgrade. Ack cascade didn't die, as Spain Researches Music Theory and start JS bach. I will probably miss that one then. 790Ad Smell a 3fer. Got some money as I nix research for a short while. Buy Banking from Isabelle for 94 gpt. Buy Chemistry from Germany for Banking and 30 gpt. Buy Music Theory from Russia for Astronomy and we have parity. Time to think if I want Leos or JS Bachs. Think I will take Leos, and hope the cascade will take out Some of the cities byuilding JS Bachs. Lose a Mediaval taking the harbor city of Oxford. Get 6 workers in exchange for said Medieval though. Will gamble 183 gpt for a Printing Press Monopoly. Some AI will get the techs I need soon now. Manage to capture London, using 7 of the nine knights I had in range. It contains the Oracle. IBT: Complete Leos. Will have to go peace real soon now, so I can spend most of my GA building Banks. Cascade eats up Bachs. Lets hope my palace prebuild lasts long enough to net Smiths. 800Ad Give up getting a leader, and sign peace with the english, accepting Warwick as bribe for peace. You better prepare good now Elizabeth, because in twenty turns, I will be back with Cavalry. 810AD five turns on Printing press, and 12 turns on prebuild. ( Needed to speed up Printing press, allowing me to self research Economics should I need that. ) My gambit on Printing press, like my gambit on Music Theory fails. So, instead of finishing off Printing Press, I start Economics, due in ten. Strongly suspecting Ais will go the way of Democracy, and I would not want my Prebuild to fail. Get Printing press for Chemistry from Arabia. Metallurgy is out there, but out of my leage still. 860AD Navigation is known, and I get some lux deals swinging. Need to get rid of my 20 % lux taxes asap. They are costing a fortune now in my GA. I will not buy Navigation though, since I hope third time is a charm, and I will land a monopoly on Economics and grab Smiths as well as tech parity. 890AD AIs are warring so much that no one of those who have Navigation have started Magellans yet. Wow. I have three turns on Economics, and four turns on my prebuild. I have started to build cheap pikemen now. Will soon hook up Saltpeter. Have Salt available in old english lands. 910AD We get Economics, and Smiths is due in 6. Aztecs finally start Magellans. Get Metallurgy and SPices for Economics and 21 gpt from SPain. Get 900 gold for Economics from Rome Get Navigation from Aztecs. Get Dyes from Arabia for Iron. NIx research, as I am fairly certain AIs will do the research for me. I will likely as not not do any research until I can research Steam. Will have to keep a close watch for 2fers and 3fers though. 920AD Buy MilTrad from Isabelle for 120 gpt. ( Out of 630 GA production. ) Trade MilTrad with Babs for Physics, handing him 17 gpt to grease the machinery. 930AD Now that I have miltrad, I connect a Saltpeter. Time to build Cavalry. 960AD Income takes a huge jump as Smiths comes in. Now I will hope AIs complete Magellans before Newton's becomes available. Nope. Newton's become available this very turn. Cascade is still going strong, and I doubt I can get any more medieval wonders. ( Newtons and Magellans are available.) Help out Aztecs by trading Democracy for Physics and MilTrad from him. 970AD Time for a new 2fer. Techs really fly by now. Buy Magnetism from Spain for 131gpt Magnetism + 17 gpt gets me and Hammurabi into the modern age. Blah, he gets nationalism as his free tech. Window for crushing the English is closing fast. If I go full tilt, I can get Steam in 10. I am fairly certain AIs will get there before me, so I put a lone scientist on Medicine instead. 990AD No longer in Golden Age, our income drops to 446 gpt. We do have some rather large deals though. 1000AD will be celebrated as the year of the final English war. I fully expect to grab all but one of the English cities within a couple of turns, as they will have pikes and spears against Cavalry. Leeds is the first city to fall. York is next, followed by Cambridge, Liverpool and Coventry. More than half of England falls in teh first turn. 1010AD Round two sees some english troops appearing out of the woodworks, but no attacks from them. I grab Nottingham,Canterbury and Newcastle, and english are down to a 4CC. Get my first lost cavalry in the battle for Exeter. Exeter falls though. 1020 Get Reading and Dover, making England an OCC. Will wait for peace. They might be able to survive for some time. Last city is also not defensible, and is begging to get atatcked, perhaps making a blood enemy out of Zulus or Aztecs. This is something I do bnot want. If I am to get a blood enemy, it had betetr be Iros. They are by far in possession of the most lands on this continent. Dial up research, hoping I will get a monopoly on Medicine while Ais research Steam. 1040 Rome, Babylon and Spain, the three nations with Nationalism, have decided they should war upon one another. Let them throw good shields after each other. 1060AD Finish Newtons in a second ring city. Ack, disaster has struck. Somehow my rep is toast, and I can no longer use gpt in deals. sigh. SIgn peace with England, mainly for Warwearines. NO leader this time either, but I only had some 12 elite victories, so was not really expected. 1070 England and babylon signs an MPP. Wonder what is in it for Babylon. England is an OCC. 1090 Zulus are in trouble, and I gift them some iron and techs, to help them make a better defense than impis. No steam from any of the AIs. I am waiting impatiently. I have 5 moer turns before I know if it was a smart 2fer to go for Medicine, or if every single AI went for Communism. 1120 Medicine comes in, and Aztecs complete Magellans. I am counting on getting every wonder from now on. :) Sell Medicine to those with money, and they will have to fund my own research into Steam. Had hoped the AIs would have gotten that tech by now. Iros now have Nationalism, so I missed my cavalry window for them. I wont gift Germany into Industrial age, as it is only one out of three he will get Steam. 1170 Aztecs and Iros goes to war. Have to watch this closely, as I hope one of them will qualify for Blood enemy. Otherwise I will have to live peacefully. Steam is known. I can buy it from Spain for 1560 gold, or research it myself in 2-3 turns for 1300-1900. I buy it and statr max research to Industrialisation. Pay Spain 80 gpt for Steam Sell coal to Russia for 9 gpt and 580 gold. Hmm, quite probably Russia that got Steam as her free tech. Should have saved my money then. As they say, hindsight is always 20/20. Heh, get another 48 gpt from SPain for an extra coal:) I will bleed Iros of some cash now, since I will need another 20 turns building Infra now before any possible attack can be made upon them. Get 80 gold and 33 gpt for a lux, and that is basically all of his gold. Good luck trying to get steamed now :) Trade iron for gems from Arabia. He is mauled from all sides, and can need a break. The Great Roading begins. This is the time where I always regret not having more workers. On the other hand, in this game I will not be able to join them to my cities after they have finished their work. This time I may even build a couple of RadioTowers just to get rid of teh gpt cost for them. IBT: ooooo Get ironworks message. Lets hope it is close to one of my palaces. 1180 Gah, Birmingham, a size 2 city stuck in amongst the hills and mountains is my ironworks city. blah. IBT: Finish a University, and Industrialization goes from 7 to 5 turns. 1230Ad Industrialization comes in, and I start on Sanitation. Considered Electricity, but dismissed that possibility due to my belief in that an AI would research that before I could. Trade Ivory+Industrialization for Nationalism from Babs. Get 114 gpt and 500 gold from Rome. Rest are poor, and do not want to pay Communism for INdustrialization. Hoping I can get Communism from Sanitation instead. Gift Arabia up to Nationalism. I want them to survive against Rome. 1250AD Babylon declares war on Zulus who are down to a 1CC. We also get our first factories online. STarting Coalplants in the designated wondercities. Hmm, Aztecs qualify for Blood enemy by destroying the English. Will wait a couple of turns and see if Iros is likely to qualify to. Would much rather fight Iros, as they have a lot of land. Their lands are much closer to mine as well. ----------------------> Picture of ENglish Demise 1270 Sanitation comes in, and I do not know if I should go Electricity/Scientific Method, or if I should detour around Corporation. WIll set it on Electricity, as it is more likely the AIs will have chosen Corporation. ( I think. ) 1275 Have to build redundant raillines as Aztec and Iro cavalry are clogging the rails. AMusing to see them duke it out in my jungles that is not railed yet. 1280 I have thought about it enough. We cannot live with the knowledge that the Aztecs eliminated OUR enemy. Let it be known henceforth that all things Aztecs are considered evil, and we will use all our might to punish them. Noticed that a cavalry of mine who attacked an Aztec army managed to rettreat. Perhaps archers and cavalry in the army. 1290 My advance into the Aztec heartlands is struck a mild blow as Iro irregulars are blocking all three railroads to the front. I will have to fortify on the mountains, and hope the counterattack is weak. Still no new techs from the AIs. WHat are they doing. Iros ought to have a somewhat good economy, seeing as he has as much lands as I have. 1300 Discover the AIs have researched Electricity :( I will not buy it from them though. I have a one turn research on it myself. WIll then research Scientific Method, hoping to score a monopoly on that one. Bah, Buy it anyway from Iros using Sanitation to get full price out of him. Get Communism from Spain for Sanitation and Electricity. Policestations are starting to get needed. 1305 Capture Magellans. WOnder if I can keep it. I am somewhat light on defenders, building mostly cavalry, and taking the losses on the chin. Zulus are reduced to a OCC, and I have hom surrounded, hoping to prevent his death by one of his enemies. I will have to build some fleets to, once marines are available to the AIs. With no way to increase size of cities except naturally, this is the years of the great irrigation. Well, two can play the game of interference. I position my troops so that Iros cannot attack with their main SoD, setting them up to just soften a hard target. Do have some Warwearines now, so I go a preventive 10% lux tax Do get a leader after some 20 battles with my elites. WIll use him to rush a palace in Cambridge. Ought to be central in my 'acquired' lands. ---------------------> Picture of Leader + Picture of new core 1315 Hmm, will have to wait one turn with the palace move, as I am using the palace as a prebuild. 1320 Prebuild for ToE perfectly timed. Hoover not as perfect, but not shabby either. ------------------> Picture of 1320 setup For the second turn in a row Iros block all access to the front. Does not matter much, as defenders are not plentiful any longer. When driving out the final Aztecs on this continent, I hit the jackpot after only some 4 attempts. Another leader is here. This one will be an army. ---------------> Show picture. Only a single AI had any money, and we take Isabellas 232gpt for Scientific Method. Since Aztecs has their capital on a 1 sector island, I figure it is time to sign peace. Reccon it is at least 20 turns before I have marines. I WILL remember to pick them off at that time though. Time to go ultra builder in order to get new core productive ASAP. Also haev to build up a proper defense, in case Iros decide to get frisky. IBT: Should have waited with signing peace. Tenochtitlan depose us before we had a chance at starving them. Bah. 1330 Turns are starting to take a real long time, and I will perhaps soon have to resort to automated workers just to keep my sanity. Iros will grab the city that revolted to Aztecs. 1335 AIs are giving me a hard time on The Corporation. I KNOW they will research it in case I start it, but if I do not start it, they will happily ignore it for exciting techs like Espionage or some such. I would be able to USE those stock exchanges. STart a lone scientist as a compromise. 1340 Another continent war erupts on the other continent, and I gift Germany Nationalism to even the playing field. I want them all to survive over there. 1355 We complete the Hoover dam to much rejoicing across the lands. 1360 Spain manages to convince Iros to go to war against the romans. This could be good, as Iros might just drive out the roman settlements along the shores of my continent. 1370 At last, a tech. Russia has Replaceable parts. It is a monopoly, but I will use my Atomic powers to trade with them. And that ought to teach me to trade before doing all worker actions. Stupid newbie mistake. Lost an entire turn of RP enhanced worker actions. 1380 Universal Suffrage comes along. Iros raze a roman city, and hopefully I will be able to settle once the iro cavalry has moved. 1390 Core around Forbidden palace is fully developed and optimized. Have some cities going at 90 spt. Had hoped for 100+, but perhaps Forbidden Palace site might reach that, since it is a bit behind on growth, having spent a couple of turns building Wonders. Around new capital in England, jungle is cleared now, and work is proceeding briskly to clear out the humungous jungles in old english core. I am really into not losing workerturns here as I send a lot of trailbreakers into the jungles to build roads. Those trailbreakers then are followed by the woodchoppers after they have built the road. ---------------> Picture jungleclearing. 1395 As I renew lux deals, I will support the smaller nations of SPain and Germany, hopefully helping their research. ( Not the large one of Russia. ) Dyes from SPain for 122 gpt --> Starting to get expensive here.... I am 12 turns into my single scientist on Corporation, and still no sign of it. Weird having tech at almost a standstill with such large nations around. Almost entire game has been this with the many 40 turners I managed to get in at the beginning. 1405 Finally, SPain has researched the Corporation. I will pay SPain some gpt for it Send ELectronics to Isabella for Corporation and some 300 gpt. Dislike hastening tech pace, but think tech pace would be higher if I fed her large amounts of money. Will wait a couple of turns, and then make the same offer to Russia when she has managed to get her gpt up a bit with the newfangled Stock markets. I put my single scientist on Radio, as that look slike the most expensive tech around. WIll have to be careful not to advance to modern before marines can take out the nefarious Aztecs though. Spend 9,000 gold rushing stockexchenges and factories. My income now is 1973 gpt. Fun to see what it is after my stock exchanges completes. 1410 Income now to 2140 gpt. I expect that will increase rapidly as the non-rushed Stockmarkets complete. No need to rush in cities producing 70+ shields. 1420 Starting to use governor to manage citizens moods as cities become optimized. This is mainly so that a citizen gets placed when I clear pollution, savin me a couple of seconds every turn. Turns take long enough as it is. Some sort of deal has run out, as I make less now than I did before. In an amazing coincidence, Russia has espionage and Electronics as well. Wonder what exchange rate AIs use amongst themselves for her to have used Espionage to get Electronics from Spain. 1430 Old core is now finished with infra for a looong time, and income from cities is up to 2870 gpt. New core just needs to grow, as all of the jungle is now gone. A couple of turns are left before I can start otpimizing those cities for production. 1440 Think it is fruitless trying to get more land from a developed AI with Infantry. Will tech up to Tanks without trading, and go for a tank rush. Other option would be to crank out lots and lots of Artillery for a slow but steady advance with a couple of turns of peace in between to placate peaceniks. So, I will tech and build infra, and then hit with full production of two cores. ( Incidentally introducing a possible 10-20 % extra penalty on my score. ) 1450 Investigate Oka, an Iro city on the border to check if I can outculture it, but no luck. All culture enhancing improvements are built in a size 8 city. On the up side, I can only spot one rubber resource, and it is only defended by 3 riflemen. If most of the cities are defended by only three riflemen, then it might be feasible to wage a short blitz with my leftover cavalry, peace for 20 turns while I research tanks, and then a final mighty push. I will build up some cavs and artillery during the three turns Radio takes to come in, and then depending on spy results, I will strike at Iros with the goal to take out key resources. ( read rubber. ) With their extremely low income during communism, I doubt they would be able to afford buying on the open market. I have 9 cities reachable by their cavalry ( If I make initial targets. I have plenty of infantry, so those cities will have 7 infantry in them each. And overlapping radio towers. Have no real use for my workers now, they only cost a lot of money. ) 1465 Attack starts and I earn another 10% penalty. Start the softening up with artillery. Primary goal this first turn is to liberate the east, to prevent a two front war. Secondary goal is the iron rich northern parts if Iros. This will of course leave their entire core untouched, and that may not be wise. Will see how much the plan survives contact with the enemy. -------------> Softening up picture. -------------> Target 2 and 3 pictures. 20 Cavalry is enough to reduce Tenochtitlan forces to 3 cavalry spread out around the captured Tenochtitlan. Losses estimated at 4 cavalry. 1 Army and 3 cavalry is enough to capture Oka, which is target number 3. Will see if primary target is soft enough so that I get forces left over to do something constructive in the beachhead the Oka capture gave us. Hmm, 20 cavalry and 18 Ramboes are not enough to clear the Iro eastern provinces from cavalry. WOnder briefly why he stuck some 30ish cavalry on his far eastern armpit, but then again, he has chosen Communist as government, he will do anything. I send my remaining 12 cavalry and 4 elites to that front to get rid of the cavalry forces. IBT: That was odd. An iro infantry manages to defeat a fortified rambo on a hill guarding a radiotower. Without taking more than one hit. It is evened out as my infantry on the mountain defeat the Iro cavalry army taking only one hit. Second core will stay on infra during this initial attack. This is supposed to be a skirmish manily, bleeding Iros dry of troops, letting him poprush more in his big cities. 1470 Hmm, Intombe is autorazed. That is good fortune, as it took up two places for cities. I will send my two combat settlers there right away, and then produce reinforcements, should that happen again. The east is also pacified, and all that remains is to heal troops, and change to the western front where the iros are starting to mass troops. 1475 I have developed a method to the madness of all the units that work for me. First I collect all the active units somewhere central. Then when I know how many and of which sort, I draw up my plans, and deploy. The units not on rail is first railed, and then collected. Quite easy to forget anyway, but I have lowered the number of mistakes involved in using my units somewhat. Feels wrong that human stamina should be a limiting factor though. I only occasionaly can resist the urge to press next turn enough to allow me to micro a few cities. It is important to micro. several cities can be pushed from an annoying 75 to a golden 83 spt. Do not really like the dynamics of this though. It creates unneccessary labour. Realize it is part of the game though, and there may even be people who think this is the fun part of the game. For me it is a means to the end though. -----------------> Central Collection. Notice I have one snip of war weariness. WIll adjust luxtaxes just in case. MOst of my goals have been met, and the iro cities are starting to be defended by Infantry, so it will soon be time to sue for peace. Perhaps I can even get a couple of more cities by the peace deals. ---------------> Insert picture of last target. 1480 Heroic Epic is completed. Hopefully I can get a leader now for Military academy. ( Or is it better to keep that one for prebuild purposes... Hmm, nope, could use armies as prebuilds . ) Sherman appears when we drive out some Iro cavalry who had tried their luck at seaborne invasion. Sherman is used to get an infantry army. Get Refining from Caesar for 11 gpt and Electronics. For 9000 gold, I can get Steel in four turns. I could also get 25 cavalries. Decisions Decisions. Russia is in Democracy, and has Steel as only research option. Question is, can I research substantially faster, in order to pauper her. Decide to let her do th etech this time. Have to learn how fast she will research eventually. IBT: SPain extorts me for 260 gpt for her two luxes. And this is with me supplying her with one lux too. 1485 Capture another two cities. Artillery sure makes its weight felt. It is timeconsuming though, and losses start to rack up war weariness, so I sign peace for another three cities. Time to get production up so that I can roll over him with tanks later. 1490 I asuume I will be at peace for the next 20 turns, and my entire core is now developed according to taste, so I put some 50 workers on automatic, just to get the rest of the lands roaded/railed. 1495 Germany cancels our gem deal. Someone must have pillaged his gems, as nothing I can offer will get me the gems. Have to deal Isabelle 160 gpt to keep the dyes. Expensive to keep the luxuries when you have a large empire. I can only hope turns will get less intense as we get more modern, as this is taking a huge time investment to get underway. I can barely fit in two or three turns every day. 1510 Military Academy comes in and is set to produce armies. Will need some two infantry armies, and two or three tank armies. Guessed right. Russia now has Steel. Time to see if it was cheaper letting her research, than researching myself. Yup, she only wants some 5000 gold for it. WIll give her gpt instead, as I want her to research full speed. ( for now. ) Buy steel from Isabelle for 240 gpt. Fuel for their research. They will likely research almost as fast as I can, and for much cheaper. 1520 Ironworks complete in a size 5 hilly city. Too bad we are not allowed to relocate cities. Could have been an awesome city with some more food. 1530 Iroq and Spain sign MPP. This could have some repercussions on my future plans for Iroqs. It may be time to start building wealth. We have some 200 infantry and 120 artillery. This is approaching the limits for what is feasible to use as defenders. ( Also, still have 60 cavalry parading about. ) Income from cities is up to 4300. Suspect that is fairly decent with the lack of rivers that this continent has. 1535 Start Pentagon in Cambridge 1540 It has now been six turns Catherine, where is the Combustion I ordered ?? 1545 Combustion comes in, and I feed Isabelle 295 gpt for the knowledge of how to build an engine that uses the worthless black stuff bubbling up of the sands in the desert. Time to crank up my own research now. Need to time techs so I can get a window to take out my bloodenemy Aztecs before I enter the modern age. I also need to be first in the modern age to ensure I get all the wonders. Do not want the AI to get them. Start a 50% four turn research on Mass Production. I am keeping a 10-12 thousand reserve of gold for rushing tanks. 1560 We complete the Pentagon, and I can fill up my armies. Mass production is about to be mine, hopefully at monopoly, so I can bleed the AIs for some money. 1565 Mass production comes in, and I go for Motorized transportation. Hmm, did not get a monopoly, as Russia to has gotten the tech. I had thought she would go for flight. 1570 Plant a spy in Iro HQ to check their army. They have 31 cavalry and 130 infantry. Their 35 clads will make turns take a clong time, since my fleet consists of two destroyers and a couple of transports. I do have 151 Artillery and 260 infantry together with 60 cavalry. Hopefully I can build ten-fifteen tanks every turn as soon as the tech comes in. 1585 Once again Russia has kept up with my research. Odd. Go medium research on Marines. Need to wipe out the Aztecs. WIll gift Germans up to tanks. They can use a golden age right about now, or they are at severe risk of elimination. Declare on the Iros. Spain declare on us of course, since I had forgotten about their MPP. Bah. WIll need to raise lux taxes somewhat, since I just lost three luxes. Bomb Gayagahee from size 23 to size 12 yellowing all defenders. Time to spend some cavs. ( Three move nedeed to attack. ) Ten cavalry is enough to take the city, losing four of them. New Cattaragus is conquered losing one tank. Lose six tanks and a cavalry in the battle for Akwesasne. :( Mauch Chunk is much more reasonable, only making me lose two cavalry. Tonawanda falls without losses for me. It was of course completely redlined by my artillery beforehand. Ixtapaluca costs me one cavalry, but down it goes. In order to prevent nasty surprises, I saturate the front with infantry, in sensitive places two sectors deep. It is of course possible for a human to break out, but I suspect the AI will be unable to do more than scratch the most threatening infantry, and not hurt the advance at all. The secondary purpose is to keep his forces inside HIS territory, and not gallivanting around in my mountains, razing improvements and causing trouble. IBT: Lose four cavalry to counterattacks, but not before he loses two infantry and two cavalry attacking them. They were hiding in the mountains. Infantry tactics seem to work, and his cavalry pillagers are bogged down in mountains/hills on his side of the border. 1590 Leapfrogging is getting harder this turn, as Iros have spread their cities out. I need to bombard before striking at cities, due to cities being defended by at least three infantries. After the tragic losses last turn of my tanks, I will try to be a little bit less enthusiastic with using them. Onnontare faklls though. Owego falls after being bombed down to size 12. Need five tanks to take out the redlined defenders. Battle of Neodakheat produce Jackson, a leader. He is used to rush an army. Chiconautia falls. IBT: Iros lose 4 infantry and two cavalry killing two infantry for me, and get back some three workers I hadn't managed to evacuate. Get riots in large cities without policestation in spite of me cranking lux up to 20 %. Akwesasne depose us, costing us another two infantry. 1595 AFter a hefty bombardment Salamanca falls. Akwenase is recaptured. Use 8 cavalry and a tank army capturing Oioguoen. Had some luck with retreats, and only lost three cavalry. This was the last city in the Iro north. ONly core Iro is now left. ------------------------> Main battleline 1595.jpg IBT: Spain makes a heavy statement. One clad bombard my coastline to no effect.... RNG smiles upon the Iros, and they kill off three infantry without getting losses. 1600 Niagaral Falls falls after being bombed down from 23 to 12 in size, yellowing and redlining all the defenders. Lose a couple iof cavalry capturing Oil Springs. Lose three tanks in the battle for Caughnawaga, but prevail. Lose four cavalry in the battle for the bombed out Grand River. That was all the cities easily reachable. Spend the erst of my units on SoD-control, trying to take out the pillagers. IBT: An iro Ironclad sinks our elite destroyer. Several riots as war weariness steps up. 1605 Skannayutenate falls after vamquishing two tanks. Incredibly enough, Russia still hasn't researched Flight. INstead they chose Marines, the same as me. Seems like it is almost impossible to get a monopoly. Buy Amphibious for 650 gold. ( Which is more than it would have costed to finish research on my own. I now nix research for a short while, until I vanquish Aztecs. Put luxtax on 40% instead. Charge Centralia with 12 tanks without artillerysupport. Get lucky with retreats, and only two dies. I now control the Iro rubber, so hopefully there will only be four infantry in every city. Allegheny is also on this turns fall-list. Kiohero falls in a leapfrog attack, and we have a resort on the western coast of our continent. Goiguen falls after extensive bombardment. And thats all the reachable cities. Time to position troops for next assault. IBT: Fairly quiet IBT. One Iro infantry is defeated attacking a rambo of mine. Second Iro infantry defeats my rambo. 50% luxes seems to be the medicine against war weariness. 1610 St Regis is first to fall. Gandastetaigon the Iro capital follows shortly. Iros are still in Democracy, how about that. Down to 33 infantry now though. 1615 Kahnawake is the first city to withstand a turn of siege. I had three tanks to little in the assault, and it is not reachable by my cavalry. I am somewhat mollified as Cattaragus falls to my might. Ganogeh falls. 1620 New Niagara is taken over, and Iros have only their northern tip left. Kahnawake is taken, and we get Patton. I will save hime for the Internet wonder. Wouldn't want Russia to grab that one. Chondote for some reason is only defended by two infantry, and falls quickly in spite of me not using many artillery on it. Next turn after I grab Kente, it is time to make peace with the Iros, and give them a small reservation where they can live out their days. Then it is time for the great tech race with the Russians, so that they will not grab any wonders. IBT: Get our first flip as Gandastetaigon depose us. Was somewhat expected to get a flip, since Iros had some 50% more culture than I had. 1625 Use the opportunity to bomb down some population from the flipped city before retaking it. Declare war with the Aztecs. Time they pay for what they did to the English. First marine does no damage, and promote the rifleman. The rest of the marines get a chewing out, and they go out and do their jobs. ------------------> Picture Aztecs down. Bomb Iros, and then sign peace for their remaining cities. I then sign a RoP with him, so I can park a fleet in his territorial waters to prevent any aggressors from going and getting him. Also sign peace with the Spanish. Get Flight from them for another 290 gpt. Gift Germany into modern age, looking for a 2fer. Russia and Spain know Ecology. Germany gets Fission. I will take my chances with a five turn research into Computers. Expensive as hell, but hoping to get a monopoly and end my financial problems. 1635 I am slowly bringing the Iro cities down to size 1, for cultural buildings. Starting to collect peace-forces. Have been playing with the thought that I should place an 'honorguard' around a city of every remaining civ, just to make sure no one takes them out. Figure if I send some workers along as well, helping them road and improve, it would not be a case of resource denial. My peace forces are my plan to prevent AIs from killing each other off. Since I cannot gift cities, I will send 'neutral observers' over to the other continent, putting up roadblocks so that armed forces cannot navigate. I will also have to send 'volonteers' along with the forces, roading, railing and improving the lands. Sign RoPs with the other continent. Only AI able to pay for the privilege is Russia. Rest has warred their coffers empty. 1640 I am really starting to dislike the russian scientists. They are up Computers on me now. She would want 300 gpt for the tech. Reseraching myself will cost some 3-4000 gold. I will do the honors myself, and take my chances of getting Miniaturization first. I disband some 30-40 artillery for shields in my most corrupt cities. Fittingly enough, my artillery will be used to build libarries in the conquerred Iro cities. 1645 Russia starts SETI. They are incredible. I am falling behind in spite of me having my whole continent for myself. Investigate Odessa and see they will need 13 turns for SETI. I will get it in 10 in my best city, so I start the prebuild I had forgotten to build. I build SETI so rarely, I had forgotten it was available with Computers. I normally go for Modern armor and Game over. 1650 Computers come in, but best I can get for Miniaturization is 6 turns. It will allow me to upgrade most of my infantry though. Hmm, Russia and SPain both go to war against the Arabs, one of the most behind nations. I will have to send more peacekeepers obviously. Germany joins the dogpile on teh arabs. Incredible. 1665 Argg, for the second turn in a row I manage to press return when I am disbanding artillery, and end my turn prematurely. No way I am going to replay 30 minutes from autosave just to get the last couple of disbandings just right though. WIll have to be more careful. Almost entire continent is naturalized, just a few disgruntled iros in the largest cities left to make into road crew and shipped to the other continent. Other continent is devolving into two dogpiles against Arabs and Babylonians. I will have to adjust my peacekeepers carefully, making sure I put up a good and solid wall. 1675 First signs of global warming as a tundra forest is turned into tundra. Will have to let my peace-corps clean up the foreign messes as well. 1680 Miniaturization comes in. Will use my saved leader to rush internet, and hopefully the tech to get even with the AIs. Next research will be genetics. I have no idea how much my production will increase when internet comes online, so I do a modest 6 turn research, hoping it will get into 3-4 turns after internet. 1685 internet comes in. I will research Genetics, and then revolt into democracy. I will not fight much, and I suspect I will earn more money in democracy. Hopefully enough more that I will recover the seven lost turns due to anarchy. Genetics dropped down to four turns. I will at least have a modest income while researching at this speed 1690 Bah, Centralia flips when I got it down to size 3. Will retake it in a couple of turns, when my RoP goes out. Seti completes in Baltimore, and I start Manhattan as a prebuild for the cheaper of the two wonders Genetics will let me build. Ack forgot to start second prebuild. Bah. Will have to be republic a short while longer then. Land an additional 30 workers on other continent to help with roads and stuff. 1705 Genetics comes in, and I go for Recycling. 1720 SPain beats us to a great city site with one turn. Argg, That incense spot is worth 300 gpt for me. I will settle on the rubber instead. Recycling comes in, and I go for Nuclear power, having realized I would want to beeline to manufacturing plants. Do some trading to get Rocketry and advanced Flight. Thinking of putting workers off of automated, as it takes to long for them to decide to do nothing. 1740 nuclear power comes in, and I go for Laser. Slowly nations go to peace. I managed to steal one city-site on the other continent. With my cash rushes, it is likely I will get rubber with it. I will build nuclear plants in a couple of my core cities, just to check them out and see how they work. Longevity comes in. Very important wonder if I ever want to grow my cities to size 36. 1752 We do the world a favor and invents Cure for Cancer. Happines abounds. Time to revolt into Democracy, and see if that makes a difference. Revolt, and turn on the governor for happines. I will not take the time to control all the peoples moods when I have this many cities. Never seen an 8 turn anarchy before. wow. 1758 We are starving during the anarchy, since I didn't irrigate to compensate. Will have to do that now. Sigh. 1762 Trade Russia up to techparity when they get monopoly on Modern Armor. Give it to teh underdog as well, so he can go peace with a few nations. I am doing 550gpt during anarchy. Riga, a size 32 city complete Manhattan. This could get funny... 1768 We are now a democracy. I cannot see any real difference against Republic. To bad. I had hoped for an extra couple of hundred in income. Our first act as a democracy is to declare war against the Iros to regain the Centralia city that flipped earlier. 1778 Sign peace with Iros again. Have minimized chance of flip. Roading the other continent is a job without end, as the rampaging forces pillage many sectors as fast as UI can build them up. 1786 I have stopped making cities optimal, instead I let them grow. Production capacity is really not important any longer. I will make an effort once I reach 1950 so that cities may grow to size 36. I have no real clue on how long that will take, and it may be that I need to start by now. I will make a test city. Hmm, get the Apollo message when I get Spaceflight. Weird. 1790 Start my first city to be size 36. Need 72 food for it to be selfsustaining. INteresting to see if I can get there without having to set lux tax. Have to fix some silliness from the governor ( Whom I am using on moods. ) Three cities are stealing tiles from each other so that all of them are stuck at 114-118 spt. I can get two of them to 120 if I do it manually. 1796 Complete Apollo Program but our populace could be less interested in building space vessels. I open up a small hole in my wall so that Spain and Russia may reach Babylon. That was a Pandoras box. some 200 rusian mechs and 150 SPanish dito charge through. Will haev to make a smaller Baylonian reservation somewhere. 1798 I decide to stop being world police, and only make some peacekeepers standing surrounding the wonders of the world. Time to see if that will make the wars stop sooner. 1804 Babylon must have received a tech or something, as he manages to sign peace with both Rome and Russia, both of whom are gorillas compared to him. For me, I get Smart Weapons, and go for Superconductor, hoping I would get to ABm defense before ICBMs comes aflying. My testcity is already at size 28 in less than 10 turns. 1810 Canterbury is started on a Palace prebuild. 1814 Still waiting for the AIs to research Stealth, otherwise I will have had to research every single tech behind the first order by myself. 1816 Found a poched city called Minneapolis. 1818 Bah, in a mood of foolishnes, I denied Russia a demand, and now she declared war. Wonder why, since I have a strong military copmpared to her according to our advisor. I will have to remove my forces out of her territory. Wouldn't want to incur any further score penalties. I would be tempting to take her out though. A good hefty chunk of land is owned by her. 1820 We now have a strategic missile defense. 1824 The Russians buy in the Romans, and they together destroy my forces guarding the Arabs. SHortly thereafter the arabs are destroyed. Thats a hefty loss in my score. Sigh. 1826 Russia is starting to get insane, now they declared war on SPain, their neighbour, while most of their troops is up north, where the arabs used to be. ( and my gems colony. *sniff* ) 1832 Russians are mighty pissed. They still do not want to talk to us. I want peace. Mainly to get rid of the war wearines. I have lost way more money than I would have lost had I given them the tech from the start. Sigh. 1834 Peace with Russians for a RoP. Now lets hope the Romans do not induce anyone to foolishness. For some reason the Russians are furious with us. I have not even been inside their territory. 1838 SIgn peace with Romans, and hopefully I can quietly build up my cities in size again after all the starvation I incurred because I could not be bothered by waking up my workers for irrigation purposes. I have been thinking during the day at work, and I realize the decision to deny the russians demand must have been one of the stupidest things I have ever done in a game of civilization. The most I could have gained would have been around 5000 gold. SInce I get points for controlled land, and surviving AIs, 5000 gold is worth absolutely nothing, since I cannot get any rushed culture in a city to break the 1000 culture for a couple of points. So for the optimal gain of nothing, I risked war. And I got war. Arabia got kicked out of the game, which cost me a lot of points. I also lost quite a lot of population, money and production. bah. No use thinking more about it, just remember it to next time. 1848 With a couple of cities on wealth, I can keep producing Future techs every four turn. ( Unless they get more and more expensive. ) I have nothing better to do, so I start that programme. I open up a gems mine on the other continent. It is far enough away from culture borders, it may last for a couple of turns. I see that time is starting to run out seriously, so it may be time to put most if not all of my cities on wealth. 1856 Disaster strikes our ambitions to expand on the second continent as SPain for some unknown reason declares war on us. The frustration is riding high now. Berlin, the capital of Germany falls to the invading Babylonians. Since it is razed, I can steal some more land in the continent. It would have been easy, unless SPain didn't decide on having those warfare stuff. The loss of trade takes away three luxes. HOpefully I can trade with the other AIs for those luxes. 1858 I kill off some 20 mechanized and some 20 Modern armor that were exposed outside SPains borders. I will be careful not to conduct any fighting inside SPains borders. Argg, should never have jumped on to the democracy bandwagon. War weariness is now 50 % and mounting. I have quite a few losses in my barricades around wonder cities. 1862 In an island invasion of the SPanish, they manage to get three wins in a row against fortified Mechs. This of course helped them get a leader. The leader to add insult to injury managed to get to safety inside SPain borders. The leader stands there unescorted, quite safe because of our peaceful nature. Our squadron of F15 in Portland is probably earning their keep, as I get a few wounded every turn. ( I have turned off battle anomations. ) 1864 Just to make life more fun for me, the SPanish sign up the OCC zulu to go to war against me. Thats the thanks I get for protecting them for more than a thousand years. Things are not working out very well. SPain is eroding my protection of the German cities containing Great wonders also. They go to great lengths to capture workers and artillery. I discover Zulus had an MPP with Germany, and the germans who I am trying to protect from the Babylonians declare war on me. I will just have to hope the Babylonians does not raze the cities when they get them, as I am obliged to abandon their respective territories. 1868 Germany is falling fast as the roads to him gets opened up. Every turn SPain comes and takes out a few of my troops and then I kill all SPanisj troops outside of their cultural border. Having some trouble with it though, since it is hard to see the differnce between a lightblue Spain, and a blue america. Leipzig falls, and the stupid Babylonians raze the city. Scratch one wonder of the world. 1870 We make peace with Spain. If I include a RoP, they will pay me 33 gold for the pleasure. 1872 Found Oakland in former German lands. There is room for two more cities here. Even more if the Babylonians raze more of their cities. 1874 Hamburg the last german city on the mainland is razed. Germany is reduced to a one tile island. Should hopefully survive until game end with that. 1878 Found Tampa Bay, Orlando and Tacoma. Finally get peace with Germans. -----------> Insert picture of corner 1878 We also now have spices. :) 1886 We have our first size 36 city. Seems like it can go quite fast if you optimize for food. War will play havoc though. I am getting very frustrated here. Out of the blue, the Romans declare war. I have more than twice his troops. NO idea what he wants of me. The romans burn Tacoma. It is very frustrating to only be able to defend myself. All in all, the romans burn three of my new cities and kill some 30 troops. Whats even worse, I lost two luxes which I cannot replace. This will be expensive. 1890 Now they sign a trade embargo. This means I cannot buy back the luxes when we get peace. Just great. 1898 Ooops. We have our own three mile island. ------------> Insert picture meltdown.jpg Celebrate 1900 with another meltdown. Nuclear plants may not have been a great option on this map. 1902 We get peace with Romans. I will keep some 20-30 units with at least one army in every city on the other continent from now on. Hopefully I will not get struck by the AIs. NOw I will wait for the trade embargos to run out, so I can drop my lux taxes. 1928 To save time, I turn off show friend move. Hopefully there will be no more sneak attacks. 1952 No new wars. I am starting to think about feeding my core to see how many cities I can get to 36. Have been using the core cities for wealth. WIll wait a couple of more years though. 1959 Argg, just discovered that turns is only one year now. . It is highly doubtful I will manage to complete on time. Will do my best though. 1965 Heh, I am using 5050 gpt for research. This nets me a tech every four, and -161 gpt in income. 1970 Hmm, This is weird. Russia is so mad at me that they would not accept me gifting them 100 gold and 11 gpt. Thats some serious reputation hit when you cannot even gift gpt. 1975 Stupidity erupts again, as SPain goes to war against the russians. 1979 I finally lose my colony of Gems due to Babylonian culture. Can get it cheap for rubber and iron from the russians. 1985 Time to irrigate the rest of my cities that have the potential to reach size 36. Time to quit for today. I have 65 turns to go, and SUnday and Monday left to finish it. Average turnaround is some 10-15 minutes, so it is physically possible. :) 1989 Buy a fresh set of maps and discover Russians and SPaniards are bombing each other to oblivion. There are no roads, so it would be extremely hard to get a settler into position to poach. I find only one ruin though, but the site would have been good for another fifteen tiles. 1990 And once again, the romans declare war upon us. WOnder what evil I have done to him for him to be so persistent. This is sunday afternoon, time is fast running out for me. In the initial attack against my furthest city, he loses 21 modern armor and my city holds. I think one of the two armies defending even survived, albeit redlined. I also had some 10-15 assorted moderns and mechanized in that city. Will have to statr producing moderns now in my core cities instead of wealth. Kill off some ten Mechanized that didn't have the move to reach my cities. Take time to wake loads of garrisons in main continent and fly them over there. Rome continues to be all bright and shiny, and declares war on Russians also. Good thinking. Attack the two largest nations at once. Too bad I will lose points by spanking him. Dogpile is complete as Zulus and Babylonians also declare on the russians. Hmm. 1992 Looking at the map, it strikes me as somewhat likely that Russia launched a tac-nuke on a SPanish outlying colony. No way they would have had time to build a nuclear plant in this colony. --------------> Insert pic of nuclearstrike.jpg 1998 We get peace with Iros and Romans. I will be spending the time IBT to try and figure out why he attacked. During war, my size 36 cities will starve down to size 33. Lets hope there will be no more wars. I need the size 36 cities. 1999 I accidentally build an ICBM in my Army build city when it couldn't build any more armies. ( I now have 29 armies :) ) 2004 Time to hurry if I want to poach, as Spain and Russia signs peace. Spain make a 180 degree turn and declare war on Romans. Hunt Valley is built. Lightly defended by 10 moderns and an Infantry army. Spain is on a roll, declare on Babylon as well. 2010 Found Springfield. It will have time to build a library so that I can get a culture expansion out of it. Hoping for one more spot. I also have lost the race for reaching Future Tech 36. Would have liked that, but I will likely only reach 30. 2011 Palo Alto is founded. No new city sites available, unless the HUGE modern armor stack of Romans will go burning across SPain. 2019 Now this could be funny. Roem and Babylon just went to war, and they share a HUGE border. SPain and Babylon is at war as well, but they have a chokepoint in between themselves. Or did perhaps Babylon launch a nuke ?? Russia declared on Babs as well. Take pity upon Shaka of Zulus, and gift them into Industrial age. Yup, thats right. We gift the Theory of Gravity:) 2022 Spokane is founded on the ruins of an old SPanish city. 2025 Just noticed. The entire russian mainland has been bombed. They are suffering hard right now. Will see if I can send some helpers to help clear out the mess. It is not like I have few workers. Spain is in dire needs as well. The AIs are having fun it appears. ----------------> Insert picture russian meltdown. ----------------> Insert picture french meltdown 2026 Ack. Didn't put enough troops in my poached cities, Spain does not have enough to do with the babs, and they declare. This could very well cost me my size 36 cities. Will have to make sure lux tax is high enough so that I can keep them at size 36. 2028 I forget to move my naval units, and lose three of the cruisers unneccesarily. 2030 Babylonians help me out by destroying some Spanish infiltrators. 2033 I witness a marine invasion that succeeds. :o Good thing I have guarded the germans/iros and zulus even against naval invasions. We have warred for four turns now, I have not lost a single city, and war weariness is at 78 %. I really do not like democracy. It is way to late to revolt now though. I need the culture, and my size 36 would never grow big enough fast enough. 2034 Iroq and Spain sign peace, why will she not speak with me ?? 2036 I am starting to get desperate here. Lux taxes at 70 %, and still pop is dropping in the weakest cities. WHat rules how many turns you have to wait until speaking terms ?? 2038 This has got to be some kind of record. Spain is still refusing to talk to me, and this turn I will have to go on teh offensive to clear a road into our most besieged city. I lost some 10 defenders last turn, and I am down to only some 25 defenders now. Jackson appears, and he gets to rush a Stealth bomber. Grant also appears. He gets to rush a set of Walls. This is unfair. Babylon and Russia gets to sign peace, and I am getting really nervous about a possible dogpile now. 2039 That's a relief. The idle Romans who are suffering under the one year peace decide to go after the Spanish instead of me. Good for them. Lets hope we can discuss peace terms next turn. We have been at war for some 14 turns by then, and she will not speak with me. Hmm, do not know what Spain did, but Russia declares on them as well. Lets hope Rome gets to keep their cities, as my reinforcements come that way. 2040 SPain will finally talk with me. Hopefully I can save at least one of the size 36 cities from starvation. Sign peace and actually get some small change for it. Lets hope I can have peace th elast ten turns now. 2041 Will see if I can road up some wines for the AIs. All the wineyards in the world have been nuked. ! 2042 Manage to save one city to size 36 by MM. Another had starved to far, and will be size 35 only. 2050 Germany and Spain see the sign of the times, and sign peace. wow, my highest ever score. Sim Score for those that count 13,131 ( doubles my earlier max ;) ) Land Area 3221 tiles. I have three civs who are polite towards me. I have 17 cities size 36 or larger. ( Got a bit carried away with watering them.) St Louis is size 42. I have 123 cities, making some 26 tiles per city. Missed culture. Got a whole slew of cities between 5-10 K, but only two with 10K+ culture. Should have researched this better. We have Future tech 32. Sorry, really wanted to have 36, but loads of war due to my stupidity. Only have 7 live AIs. ( Three of whom is OCC and protected by my forces. ) There are only 22 wonders left. Two have been burnt in warfare. Ancient era wonders = Pyramids ( 400 ), Great Wall (200) So, raw score would be: 03221 * 1 = 3221 -- Tiles 600 * 0,1 = 0060 -- Selfbuilt ancient wonders 00003 * 2 = 0006 -- Polite nations 00017 * 3 = 0051 -- Size 36 cities 00002 * 4 = 0008 -- Cultural cities. ( Had aimed at 20, need to learn culture. ) 00032 * 5 = 0160 -- Future techs Raw score = 3506 Multipliers would be: Aggressive. -15 Enemies att. -20 Killed enem. +05 Genocide.... -05 Wonders Raze -02 Final multiplier: -37 % Final score 3506 * 0,63 = 2208.78
